HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR JEWELLERY
Looking after your jewellery does not need to involve a complicated routine. A few simple habits can help reduce residue, scratching and unnecessary wear while keeping your favourite pieces looking their best.
1. Wipe jewellery after wearing it
Natural oils, skincare products and everyday residue can collect on jewellery during wear. Use a soft cotton or microfibre cloth to gently wipe your pieces before storing them.
2. Clean gently
When your jewellery needs a little more attention, use a soft, damp cloth or cotton bud. A small amount of mild detergent can be used when appropriate. Avoid abrasive tools that may scratch polished surfaces or decorative details.
3. Avoid harsh chemicals
Strong cleaning products and abrasive jewellery cleaners can affect finishes and stones. Gentle care is usually the best approach unless a specific piece has different care instructions.
4. Apply perfume and lotion first
A useful everyday rule is: beauty products first, jewellery second. Apply perfume, moisturiser, sunscreen and other products before putting on your jewellery whenever possible, allowing them time to absorb first.
5. Store pieces separately
Store jewellery in a soft pouch, jewellery box or its original packaging. Keeping pieces separate can help reduce scratching, tangled chains and friction between polished surfaces and stones.
6. Be mindful of chlorine, salt and heat
Chlorinated pools, salt water and high-heat environments such as saunas can place extra stress on jewellery finishes. Removing your pieces beforehand is the safest option.
How often should jewellery be cleaned?
There is no fixed schedule. For pieces worn regularly, a quick wipe after wear and occasional gentle cleaning is usually enough to prevent residue from building up. Jewellery exposed more often to cosmetics, lotions or moisture may benefit from more frequent attention.
Good care should make jewellery easier to enjoy, not harder to wear. Small habits can make a meaningful difference over time.
